A problem with the 9-speed automatic transmission that led to the recent recall of thousands of Nissan Frontier and Titan pickup trucks dating back to the 2020 model year has now damaged the automaker’s revised 2023 Z sports car. The recall was initiated because of the problem.
The 9-speed automatic transmission found in the Z is sourced from the same manufacturer as its predecessor and is assembled using the same parts.
2023 Nissan Z
Nissan has issued a stop-sale order for the sports car that has just gone on sale in order to conduct an investigation into the matter that is related to the Z. The order only applies to cars that come with an automatic transmission. A manual transmission with six gears is also available for the Z.
The company is working directly with customers who have already purchased the vehicle. According to The company spokesman Jonathan Buhler, the order to cease sales was issued on August 29.
According to the initial recall notice for the Frontier and Titan that was filed with the NHTSA at the beginning of September, the transmission in the affected vehicles may not engage the parking pawl when the vehicle is shifted into park, which may result in the vehicle rolling away from the driver.
The problem has been identified, and a solution is currently being developed. In the meantime, owners of impacted vehicles are being reminded to always use their parking brake.
