When Silverado HD unveiled its new Silverado 2500 and 3500 HD models in 2019, the heavy-duty trucks included the typical assortment of power and capability enhancements. These rigs had, moreover, adopted a divisive and cluttered front-end appearance, which may be best described as a Transformer mid-transformation.

The Silverado HD is getting a mid-cycle refresh from Chevrolet, and the automaker is utilizing this opportunity to dial back its imposing appearance. However, a long, twisted LED accent light that frames the grille lengthens the truck’s lights vertically in the direction of the windshield.

Along with a new digital gauge cluster that is 12.3 inches in size and a new center touchscreen that measures 13.4 inches, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD will come standard with practically every trim level.

Even from the photographs, it is clear that the new truck’s switchgear is of a higher quality than the existing truck’s components. The Silverado HD, like other newer GM cars, will inherit a new button arrangement that is more horizontal and will be located beneath the dashboard display.

We can’t argue against the use of physical controls for things like seat heaters, the defroster, and fan speed, despite the fact that some of the buttons around the temperature controls appear to be a little on the small and fiddly side. In addition to this, Chevy installs air vents in the region behind the back seats, and it has increased the amount of storage space available, updated the center console to include a wireless phone charging option, and added as many as ten cupholders.

It is important to note that the majority of these enhancements are only applicable to the LT, LTZ, and High Country trim levels; Chevy has not outlined specifics for the jobsite-focused Work Truck (WT) variant, but you can count on it relying on the old truck’s more fundamental displays and a dashboard layout that is less ornate.

Not only does the interior of the Silverado HD promise to be a pleasant place to spend time, but it also comes equipped with new technologies that make driving on the highway and even towing easier. In addition to the standard forward collision warning, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and a following distance indicator, adaptive cruise control is now offered as an option on the HDs.

This marks the first time that this feature has been made available on a production vehicle. Even with a trailer hitched to your vehicle, you may use the adaptive cruise control feature, and it will take into consideration the trailer’s additional weight as well as the increased aerodynamic drag when maintaining your speed or slowing down for traffic ahead.

GM’s “Transparent Trailer” technology, in which cameras stitch together a rearview to give the illusion that your trailer is “invisible,” may now be used with gooseneck and fifth-wheel trailers. The blind-spot monitoring function has also been improved so that it can perform well even when a trailer is connected.

Every manufacturer of pickup trucks believes that in order to sell new or updated models, they need to make some form of claim about more power, increased hauling capacity, or both. The six-speed automatic transmission that was previously included with the standard 6.6-liter gas V-8 engine in the Chevrolet Silverado HD has been replaced with the Allison 10-speed transmission that is paired with the Duramax 6.6-liter diesel V-8 engine.

This change was made because Chevrolet is a good player of this game. Because of this modification, the gross combined weight rating of the gas V-8 HD has increased from 24,000 pounds to 26,000 pounds.

Even though it still has an Allison 10-speed transmission, the Duramax turbodiesel V-8’s power output has increased for the 2024 model year. The combustion process of the engine has undergone unspecified improvements, which are reported to be more efficient than previously. These changes have resulted in an increase of 25 horsepower and 65 pound-feet of torque, bringing the new totals to 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet, respectively.

The towing capacity of trucks that are so equipped can be increased to 22,500 pounds if they are equipped with this diesel engine and the max tow package. This engine is now available on all Silverado 2500 HD models. The maximum amount of weight that the lineup is capable of towing is still 36,000 pounds when properly outfitted dual-rear-wheel 3500 HDs are used.

The Silverado HD is still offered in the same WT, LT, LTZ, and High Country trim levels as before. The High Country trim level is the most opulent, and beginning in 2024, it will also be offered with a Midnight Edition package that will make it completely black.


In other noteworthy information regarding trim levels, Chevrolet is going to introduce a ZR2 trim level for the HD lineup for the very first time. This trim level will be geared toward off-roading and will be comparable to the extreme ZR2 versions of the smaller Colorado and Silverado 1500 models. Anticipate it happening before the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 HD models become available at dealerships in the middle of 2023.
